A mass of darkness, constantly shifting in and out of shapes unrecognizable to the human brain, hovers slightly above the ground in front of your feet.

Moments prior, you had decided to step away from the chaotic night club in order to smoke a cigarette and quiet your mind. The cold winter air on your skin is refreshing, even calming despite the frigid temperature, and the dark alley you have ventured down offers a comforting sense of protection from an otherwise noisy world.

Now, you find yourself attempting to make sense of this odd shape. Minutes pass. Smoke billows around your hand as you forget to bring the smoldering tobacco to your face. The mass is inching closer, ever so slowly, and you are becoming uncomfortable. You know that you should leave, yet continue to fall captive to its trance. You know that at any moment, your brain will begin to make sense of it; to allow you to fall into the comfortable shelter of understanding, feeling the relief of knowing that it's just your mind playing tricks.

It leaps toward you, and fear jolts through your system like electricity. Your legs cannot move at this point, feeling like hollow tubes filled with dried concrete. By the time you finally realize that this entity cannot be rationalized, it swallows you whole like a snake.

A sort of thickness tightens around your entire body. Unable to breathe, you fully bend to the will of something that human language cannot describe. Your cries transform into abstract noises, mixed with the surrounding sounds of a world minding its business, and everything that makes you human soon ceases to be.
